Kiø framed acoustic panels are made out of repurposed textile felt and upcycled discarded wood from a major Danish manufacturer. The textile felt used for Kiø is produced from worn-out workwear that can no longer be used for clothing or in other secondary clothing production. We have developed a method of sorting, where we acquire pure, clean fractions, which ensures the high quality of the end product.

1 Collection

We take our Douglas Fir wood from a Danish wood manufacturer. The wood was discarded because of knots and cracks

2 Milling

The wood is then processed at Overgaard Wood, in Fredericia. Here the wood is first rough cut for production

3 Profiling

We seek to minimise the number of different profiles so that our manufacturing is agile. Furthermore, we always cut profiles that are optimised to the material

4 Manufacturing

The Douglas Fir is turned into one of our final products. For example our Kiø Douglas panels

What happens to textile waste in Denmark?

9kg

Of textile waste is produced by one person on average in Denmark each year. The total consumption of textiles in Denmark by all sectors comprises 15 kg per person.

65,300 tonnes of

textile waste is produced each

year in Denmark

65%

Of textile is incinerated

Even taking energy recovery into consideration, incineration is the treatment route that is the least energy-efficient and emits the most CO2 compared with reusing and recycling textile.

33%

Of textile is exported

Poland, Lithuania, and Bulgaria are the countries that receive the largest amounts of used textiles from the Nordic region. It is primarily in these, and a handful of other European countries, where the textiles initially "land" for sorting, after which they are often exported further around the world. The top 10 percent of reusable textiles remain for resale within European borders, while the second-best quality, accounting for about half of the textiles, is exported to Africa and the Middle East. The poorest quality of reusable textiles, accounting for about 15%, is exported to Asia, while the remaining nearly 30% is sent for rag production, recycling, mechanical recycling, and waste processing.

0.5%

Of textile is recycled

in 2024, Denmark's government has introduced new measures on extended produced responsibility for textiles and banned the disposal of unsold and used textiles that can be reused or recycled.

Of textile is stolen from containers and is assumed to be exported

Explore our three Nærø batt colour options for Kiø Douglas. They are shades of grey and blue, which are determined by the textile waste it is produced from. We can never ensure an exact repetition of a specific nuance, from batch to batch, since our input material will always vary slightly. However, this just means that your batch is unique to your project!

What is most important for a good end result?
The subfloor must be clean and dry and must not deviate more than 2 mm over a 2-meter straight surface.

The subfloor should be tested with a pull-off adhesion test. We recommend a test result a of minimum 2,0 MPa

Make moisture measurements in the room and in the subfloor.
See the installations sheet for more information on how to mount the floor.
What surface treatment is required after mounting?
The end grain brick needs sanding and a surface treatment. See the specification from the manufacturer of the surface treatment.
Desuden kan panelet justeres vandret ved at skubbe panelet hen over beslagene.
How can I adjust or alter Kiø post-purchase?
We do not encourage altering the panel itself. The whole panel can be adjusted vertically by about 1 cm with the fittings provided, making mounting easier. Furthermore, the panel is adjustable horizontally by sliding the panel across the fittings. The wood can be treated like any other wooden product. It can be repainted, stripped, sawn, planed, etc.
