EU Awards million support to Pioneer Circular Glass Façade

In a strive towards a more sustainable built environment, a:gain, alongside it’s collaboration partners Krone Vinduer, Stykka, Kilden&Hindby, Teknologisk Institut og Force Technology, receives significant support from the European Union to develop an Upcycled Circular Glass Façade solution.

“Glass production is CO2 and resource intensive; direct reuse of discarded glass without remanufacturing has positive impact on our planet”, remarks Thomas Nygaard Hamann, CEO of a:gain. “The construction industry is one of the main drivers of CO2 emissions, waste generation, and resource consumption, and if we take the right action, we can really move the needle.”

He continues: “In Denmark, we consume four times the resources we should. This year Earth Overshoot Day comes already end March. We cannot go on like this – we must change. At a:gain, our mission is to reduce this footprint by providing tangible and scalable circular solutions for a future sustainable built environment. The support from the European Union underscores the importance of investing in sustainable development and fostering collaborative efforts to combat climate change.”

Collaboration across value chain players is key

The project partners believe that open and transparent collaboration accelerates industry change. a:gain has joined forces with competent players to save up to 700 ton of CO2 and over 150 ton of glass waste during the project’s 2½ year period.

“At Krone, we like to explore new sustainable solutions, and have specialised in production of complex customised products. Our expertise will be important as we need to develop production and supply chain flows for a:gain’s future production”, says Christian Olsen, Commercial Director of Krone Windows.

“Digital traceability and component handling are key in developing and scaling circular products. At Stykka, we have built know-how and experience within this field over the past years and look forward to applying it in a new type of product”, says Jarl Engelbrecht Vindnæs, CEO and founder of Stykka. “Understanding market needs and feedback is crucial in developing circular products for the future built environment”, says Henrik Kjærgaard-Phillipsen, Partner at urban and real estate developer Kilden & Hindby.

“We’re dedicated to finding new, more sustainable solutions and ensuring material producers like a:gain understands customer preferences”.

Teknologisk Institut and Force Technology will take part in testing and documentation of the Circular Glass Façade solutions.

The project is one of eight value chain partnerships in the project ‘Closing the Loops’ realized by WE BUILD DENMARK and Danmarks Erhvervsfremmebestyrelse.
