Dybø PET felt is produced from used plastic bottles collected within Europe. Comprising 75% recycled PET, its production is entirely waste-free, as all offcuts are recirculated into the manufacturing process. Discover more about how we transform waste into new products here.

1 Collection

Vast amounts of plastic bottles complete their final life cycle as a bottle and are subsequently discarded from the bottle recycling loop

2 Making the fibres

The bottles are melted to pellets and new fibres are drawn from these

3 Air lay pressing

The fibres are spun up and mixed together with a PET binder. Heat and pressing then creates the final acoustic batt

4 Cutting

A continuous stream of material is then cut to the desired dimensions. The batts require no further work and are ready to install

350,000 tonnes of plastic waste is produced each year in Denmark

57%

Of plastic is incinerated

Denmark ranks low at EU level for plastics packaging collected for recycling because of its large waste incineration infrastructures that limit incentives to recycle. In order to tackle that issue, Denmark is aiming to reduce its incineration rate by 80% by 2030. Additionally, the Danish government is investing in alternative waste treatment solutions to reduce reliance on incineration, promoting a shift toward more sustainable waste management practices.

28%

Of plastic is exported

In 2017, Denmark exported 48.2 tons of plastic waste. 58% ended up in Germany, which is known to export large quantities of its plastic waste to South-East Asian countries such as Malaysia. This makes waste treatment data difficult to trace and hinders improvements related to waste treatment. This highlights the current need to keep our waste at home to ensure better control over recycling and reducing the environmental impact of waste exportation.

13%

Of plastic is recycled

Denmark is among the European countries that recycle the least:

The savings from not importing new plastic raw material could save the Danish economy as much as 1.6 billion DKK per year. Recycling is therefore a political priority for the country, which aims to recycle 55% of its plastic waste by 2030. To achieve this goal, Denmark is implementing new national regulations that promote recycling infrastructure, improve sorting systems, and engage citizens in better waste separation practices.
