Flexible facade hole dimensions enable a high re-use percentage

We can customise window dimensions to meet your specific requirements. However, maintaining flexibility is crucial for achieving a significantly higher percentage of reused production-discarded glass. Early planning regarding the size of the window partitions is essential – the earlier and larger the dimensions are defined, the better the results. Engage with us early in your project, and together we can develop a solution that maximises impact.

We estimate that approximately 70% of the glass can be reused from discarded production materials, though this figure may vary between 60% and 90%, depending on the specifics of the project.

AI powered window arrangement

We produce the windows to your specified dimensions and needs. Through a vast database of discarded glass units and AI-powered tools, we make it possible to create a beautiful, waste-based façade window.

The unique grid-structures created is a look based on the core principle of the design - waste.

CO₂e footprint*

The glass units perform just as well as any other modern virgin glass unit. However, they are discarded due to visual defects, including: minor scratches, colour flaws, dimension tolerances, fingerprints in the IGU and displaced spacers.

Granulating and recycling them would require furnaces running constantly with temperatures upwards 1600°C, leading to high emissions. With Viddø we embrace the glass units and their flaws.

*CO₂e footprint and comparison are based on an avoided emission study including phases A1–A3 and C1–C4. For more info see our sustainability page.

1 Collection

High-performing insulated glass units are preserved from energy-intensive recycling processes. Instead, they are preserved and catalogued in an internal database for reuse during the design of the final window element

2 AI arrangement

The glass units are assembled like a puzzle to meet the specific needs of the project. With AI-powered tools, various aesthetics can be achieved while minimising the use of virgin glass.

3 Production

Our collaborator Krone Vinduer produces and assembles the window elements. The result is a high energy class window element in a chosen material and finish

4 Installation

Viddø is installed like any other window element. It’s delivered on site ready to be installed by the contractor

36,000 tonnes of demolition glass waste is produced on average each year in Denmark

5%
Of flat glass from construction and demolition projects is recycled
97%

Of post-consumer glass waste (food and beverages packaging) is recycled

The same infrastructure as well as legislative framework is not currently in place for flat glass waste which hinders its reuse and recycling. The little glass from the built environment that is recycled is rarely recycled as flat glass; instead, after removal it is downcycled for use in insulation, containers, construction aggregates, and road paint, among others.

Rows

An elegant horizontal expression. Here yellow squares represent virgin IGU's.

Patchwork

A playful expression that highlights the different sizes of the glass units. Here yellow squares represent virgin IGU's.

Grid

A traditional more calm expression. It's easiest achieved by the window size being determined by the discarded glass units rather than the drafted facade hole size. As such, this example case consists of 100% discarded glass units.

Frame material and finishes

Wood

A classic look in oak, ebony, douglas, mahogany, LVL and/or pine

Wood and aluminium

Wood species as above with exterior aluminium protection

Wood finish

Can be oiled, lacquered or painted, to your specified RAL-colour

Aluminium finish

Exterior aluminium can be anodised according to this colour chart

Spacers, handles and hinges

Black spacer

No matter the frame material and finish, the spacer in the IGU is always in a black finish

Handles

The standard specification is a black rectangular soft handle. See other options here

Hinges

The standard specification matches the black handle. See other options here

Wood, glass or custom doors

As a standard, we offer coloured and glass doors. Reach out to us to start discussions around your needs and we’re sure to find a look that can suit the project.

What sizes of windows can you deliver? What’s the optimal window size?

We can deliver windows in all sizes. The optimal window size is roughly 2.7×4.2 m.

Is the wall a supporting construction element, i.e. can it hold weight?

No, the modules are not intended to bear weight. They are mounted after the supporting elements are in place.

What kind of defects can appear on the windows?

The window size and depth, the profile type, the finish, the amount of doors and openable windows, and other customer-specific needs affect the price.

What parameters influence the price?

The price is influenced by the window's size and depth, the profile type, the surface treatment, the number of doors and operable windows, as well as other customer-specific needs.

Will I see the design before I make up my mind?

Yes, we will always provide you with 2-5 different layout options and verify the design with you before placing an order.

How many of the glass units are discarded? Will I see the difference between the virgin and discarded IGUs?

The amount of reused windows will depend on hole and available glass. Around 70% is to be expected. This will also be communicated when reviewing different layout options. For a higher percentage of reused windows – please reach out early in the project and leave some room for flexible sizing. If we can define the hole in the projects facade from the available windows, rather than the other way around, very high percentages are possible. The reused windows can be identified on their original small branding and marking. Visibly from afar, the most prominent quality is that the windows can have different colour finishes, resulting in a facade that from some angles display a play of different tints in the windows. This is noticeable in specific light reflections.

Can I design my own layout?

No, you cannot design your own layout as the windows we have in stock vary over time. However, we’ll always include you in the design process and make sure we find a solution that you’re happy with. Typically, we’ll provide 2-5 different layout options that you can choose between.
